# Authorization

> Create an API key and send it with every request.

Every request needs an API key. Pass it in the `Authorization` header:

```
Authorization: Bearer your_api_key_here
```

```bash theme={null}
curl https://platform.nowbookit.com/api/reservations/venue/{venueId}/tags \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer your_api_key_here"
```

A missing key returns `401`. An invalid key, or a key used for a different venue, returns `403`.

## Create an API key

You need to be an organisation admin to create API keys.

1. In NowBookIt, click your profile icon (bottom left), then select **Organisation settings**.
2. Click the **Settings** icon (bottom left), then go to **Integrations** → **API Keys**.
3. Click **Issue a key**.
4. Select **Your own integration**.
5. Enter a name for the key, select **One venue**, choose your venue, then click **Continue**.
6. Select what the key may do (**Reservations**, **Sales**), then click **Create key**.
7. Click **Copy key** and store it somewhere safe, then click **Done**.

Each key works for one venue. Create a separate key for each venue you integrate with.

> [!WARNING]
>
> The key is shown only once. Keep it secure and never expose it in client-side code, public repositories or logs.

## Lost or exposed keys

Your keys are listed under **Integrations** → **API Keys**. Click the **···** menu next to a key to:

* **Regenerate** - create a new key. The old key keeps working, so nothing breaks while you swap them over.
* **Suspend** - stop the key working until you reinstate it.
* **Delete** - remove the key permanently.
